If you are an international student, you will soon realize that the first thing that Hollywood does not prepare you for the high cost of health care in the United States. You must navigate the world of insurance, and do it successfully, you must include at least the basics of insurance for international students in medicine.
Most colleges and universities require students to be adequately insured during registration as a student full time. Usually, colleges and universities have a student plan basic insurance in place that students are enrolled by default. Students may withdraw from the college-sponsored plan to provide evidence that they have other health insurance coverage comparable.
American students may be eligible for coverage under their parents’ insurance and can not take out additional insurance. International students must either enroll in college-sponsored plan or look for health insurance for international students elsewhere. Often, coverage outside is cheaper than the college-sponsored plan, and is much more flexible.
